This is the week the summer’s biggest data collides with its biggest personalities. Tuesday brings June CPI, the most closely watched inflation report of the year after an energy shock pushed the annual rate to a three-year high, and it lands the same morning the big banks crack open earnings season. Hours later the new Fed Chair, Kevin Warsh, sits before Congress for the first time since he was sworn in, then does it again on Wednesday as PPI adds a second inflation read. Thursday piles on retail sales and a wave of earnings from Netflix to TSMC, and Friday closes with the first look at July consumer mood. Add World Cup semi-finals on US soil and a Fed that goes quiet on Saturday, and there is almost nowhere to hide.
