You agree to the privacy policy below, and the Privacy Policy for Substack, the technology provider.

Privacy Policy — Sensei’s Insights (Sensei.News)

Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what data I collect, how I use it, and your rights as a subscriber to Sensei’s Insights, under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

1. Who Is Responsible for Your Data

The data controller is Sensei’s Insights. For anything relating to your data, contact: sensei-merch@outlook.com.

2. What I Collect

By subscribing to this newsletter, I may collect:

  • Your name (if provided) and email address

  • Your subscription status and plan (free or paid)

  • Payment data — handled securely by Substack and Stripe. I never see or store your card details; I can see your name, email, and subscription/payment status

  • Interaction data (e.g. email opens, link clicks, post views, comments) via Substack’s built-in analytics

  • Anything you post or provide in community spaces (e.g. Discord, surveys) or voluntarily share with me

3. How I Use Your Data

Your data may be used to:

  • Deliver the newsletter and manage your subscription (legal basis: performance of contract)

  • Process billing and payments via Substack/Stripe (performance of contract)

  • Send service emails about your account, renewals, and changes to terms (performance of contract / legal obligation)

  • Track performance of emails (open/click rates) and improve content based on engagement (legitimate interests)

  • Offer and communicate related services and offers of my own (e.g. Discord access, new products) (legitimate interests — you can opt out of marketing at any time)

  • Prevent abuse, fraud, and payment-dispute misuse (legitimate interests)

  • Comply with legal obligations (legal obligation)

I do not use your data for automated decision-making.

4. 📂 Data Sharing

I do not sell your personal data to third parties for their own marketing.

In the normal operation of Sensei’s Insights, your data may be shared with or accessed by:

  • Substack and Stripe — for publishing, email delivery, and managing your subscription and payment

  • Third-party tools — for analytics, performance tracking, email automation, community (e.g. Discord, if you join), or customer support, each only as needed to run the Service

  • Legal authorities or advisers — if required by law or regulation, or to protect legal rights and comply with obligations (including defending payment disputes with evidence of your subscription and engagement)

Business transfer: I reserve the right to transfer the newsletter and its associated data (including subscriber lists and related information) in the event of a sale, merger, or restructuring of the business. If that happens, you will be notified, the new owner will be required to use your data consistently with this policy or give you clear notice of any significant changes, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

5. My Rights With Your Data

By subscribing, you agree I may:

  • Use your data to run and improve this service

  • Retain anonymised or aggregated usage data (which may be kept indefinitely)

  • Contact you with updates, offers, or related content (with opt-out at any time)

  • Migrate your data to a new platform if the newsletter moves

6. International Transfers

Substack and Stripe are US companies, so your data is processed in the United States under recognised safeguards (the UK–US data bridge and/or standard contractual clauses).

7. How Long I Keep It

Subscriber data is kept while your subscription (free or paid) is active. After you unsubscribe or your account closes, data is kept only as long as needed for legal, tax, and dispute-defence purposes (typically up to 6 years for payment records), then deleted or anonymised.

8. Your Rights

You can:

  • Unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email

  • Ask for a copy of your data, corrections, or deletion by emailing sensei-merch@outlook.com — I will respond within one month

  • Object to or restrict processing, including objecting to marketing at any time

  • Adjust your communication preferences in Substack

  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk if you are unhappy with how your data is handled — though I’d appreciate the chance to resolve it first

9. Cookies & Tracking

Substack and integrated tools may use cookies or similar technologies (including email open-tracking pixels) to track usage. This helps improve performance and tailor your experience. Your browser and email client settings can limit tracking.

10. Age Requirement

This content is intended for users 18 and older. Please do not subscribe if you are under 18. I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

11. Changes to This Policy

I may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email or a prominent notice before they take effect.
